ABERRANT
3D Character Sculpt, Retopology, Rig, and Materials
This piece was my final project for my Digital Character Sculpting course at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I took this opportunity to dive deeper into and expand on ideas I’d explored previously in my virtual reality avatar projects. Namely, I wanted to explore creating a character who is made of metal, yet still maintains most normal human biology.
My goal was to depict a character who had been experimented on and perhaps tortured, before escaping and living on the run.
To convey this, I gave this character a cropped hospital gown as a shirt; the only clothing they would’ve had upon escaping. They wear joggers that don’t quite fit, and shoes covered in mud from their journeys. A scar from experimental surgery streaks across their forehead, both stapled and welded to account for their metallic and humanoid biology. With them, they carry a radio tuned to a live news broadcast so that they can keep tabs on the investigation into their own whearabouts.
